WHY A CERTIFIED POOL OPERATOR (CPO®) CERTIFICATION?

The PHTA® Certified Pool/Spa Operator® Certification is recognized by local and state authorities as the most widely-accepted, verifiable pool and spa training credential. Each year, more than 30,000 professionals learn how to more efficiently operate safer aquatic facilities with this program. The CPO® Certification is valid for five years.

The CPO® Certification course will help you understand how to:

  • Operate a pool more easily and efficiently – saving time and money
  • Reduce chemical, electrical, biological, and physical hazards – protecting users & employees
  • Comply with key safety regulations – reducing liability and risk of closure

We believe we can make a difference by encouraging more aquatic activity, making pools safer, and keeping them open. Boost your credibility by taking this class and learning the critical information to help reduce risk and improve water quality.  Westport Pools and Midwest Pool Management are your LOCAL CPO experts and we will provide timely follow up on the class and can handle any of your aquatic operational needs.

ABOUT THE CPO FUSION COURSE

Part I: Online Training Program Pre-Work Self-Study -

Pool Operator Primer™

This Online Training Program is the first step to earning CPO® Certification. The online curriculum follows the 18 chapters in the PHTA® Pool & Spa Operator™ Handbook, which is provided.

The online self-study course MUST be completed BEFORE attending Part II - Zoom and Exam.

The Online Training Program cannot be completed on a mobile device. You must use a computer or an iPad.

Instructions for accessing the Online Training program, Pool Operator Primer, will be emailed to you within 48 hours of registration. The log in instructions are also sent directly from the PHTA. If you cannot locate the email with the instructions, please reach out to acasserly@westportpools.com ASAP. You can start the Primer course at any time, just be sure to leave yourself enough time to have it completed THE DAY BEFORE YOUR VIRTUAL COURSE DATE.

The Online Training Program consists of an online instructor teaching and quizzes. It is estimated to take 6-8 hours, however, it is self-paced and could take you more or less time to complete it. You do not have to complete the online training in one sitting. You can stop and pick up where you left off at another time. Use the CPO Handbook as a guide for this online Pre-Work, it is a reference, no need to read it cover to cover.

Once you have completed your Online Training program, you will receive a Record of Completion. You must send your Record of Completion (a screen shot is acceptable) to acasserly@landmarkaquatic.com or text it to 314-926-1149).

Part II: Pool Operator Fusion™- Zoom

This virtual class is offered by our certified PHTA® Instructor, Ryan Casserly. This virtual class via Zoom provides a live overview of local health codes and a review of calculations including pool and spa water problems, disinfection, water balance, water circulation, pool and spa filtration and chemical testing from 8:30am to 11am.

(You will be sent the Zoom link one day prior to the virtual class.)

Part III: The CPO Exam

After the virtual instruction portion in the morning, you will participate in the Online Certification Exam. The exam is open book and open note and covers the basics of the course and is representative of the information in the Pool/Spa Operators Handbook. Your best resource will be the glossary and index of your CPO handbook when answering questions. You must answer 37 out of 50 questions correctly to pass the exam. You have 3 hours to complete the exam. You must remain visible to the instructor on camera the entire time you are taking the exam.

If you do not receive a passing score on the CPO exam, we have alternative methods in getting you certified. Our goal is for you to understand the CPO information and will work with you towards achieving that. Our pass rate for the online exam is 96%.

CPO Certificates

After successful completion of the course and exam, you will receive a certificate by email, generally the same day you pass the exam. This includes your CPO Registration number, which is permanently recorded by the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance. You must re-certify every 5 years.
